        Understand the Table

        1. Closed Deck. Draw one face-down card from this pile.
        2. Open Discard Pile. Draw the face-up top card, or place your discard here.
        3. Your Hand. The face-up cards in front of You.
        4. Opponents. Arjun and Priya show card backs, a status line, and this deal’s penalty. Their card faces stay hidden.

        How a Turn Works

        1. Draw one card from the Closed Deck or the Open Discard Pile.
        2. Arrange cards into sequences and sets.
        3. Discard one card onto the Open Discard Pile.
        4. Keep a pure sequence, then a second sequence, before treating other groups as finished.
        5. Declare only when all 13 cards are grouped, with at least two sequences and one of them pure.

        See Valid Card Groups

These three groups are examples of legal melds on this table. Each one is only the group, not a full 13-card hand.

        Pure sequence

Same suit, in order, with no joker.

        • 5♥
        • 6♥
        • 7♥

        Impure sequence

Same suit, with one printed joker filling a missing rank.

        • 4♠
        • 5♠
        • JK

        Set

Same rank, different suits, no repeated suit.

        • 8♠
        • 8♥
        • 8♦

        Points Scoring

Cards in a counted group score 0. With no pure sequence, every card counts. With only one pure sequence, only that pure sequence is exempt. With two sequences, valid sequences and sets are exempt. Penalty points are not cash.

Penalty values on this practice table.
        Card Penalty
        Ace 10
        2 through 9 Printed value
10, Jack, Queen, King 10 each
        Printed joker 0
Card in a counted group 0

Example, not a dealt round: A♠ A♥ A♦ A♣, 10♠ 10♥, K♠ K♥, 4♠ 4♥ 4♦ 4♣, and 7♠. These ranks cannot form a pure sequence, so all 13 cards count. Eight cards at 10, four 4s, and 7♠ are 80 + 16 + 7 = 103. This table records the cap, 80. An invalid declare still scores 80 for the declarer. The other seats keep their own penalty, also capped at 80.

        Quick Strategy

        • Finish one pure sequence before chasing other groups.
        • Notice which cards leave the Open Discard Pile.
        • Look again at unfinished groups after each draw.
        • Check every group before you declare.

More practice habits are on Rummy Strategy. They do not promise a win.
